Coalition Member Joann Cartiglia in Wall Street Journal Response to President Trump: Tariffs are a “Tax on the American Dream”

Joann Cartiglia, owner of The Queen’s Treasures and member of We Pay the Tariffs, published a powerful letter to the editor in The Wall Street Journal today responding directly to President Trump’s op-ed “My Tariffs Have Brought America Back.” Joann designs historical toys in Ticonderoga, NY that help kids use their imagination.

Cartiglia on the real impact of tariffs on her small businesses:

“Abruptly adding large tariffs to our products, when many of us have no domestic production alternative, isn’t a ‘miracle’ as the president calls it. It’s a nightmare.”
“To make ends meet in the face of a 30% increase in cost of goods, my company has let go of employees, sold a vehicle and taken on massive loans at high interest rates.”
“While still costly to U.S. businesses and consumers, tariffs may be useful to counteract unfair competition when they protect U.S. industries. But when there are no domestic sources to turn to, they are simply a tax on the American Dream.”
